19 Widely Loved TV Characters People Secretly Hate

"Chandler brings out the worst in Monica. If how they first met Erica was posted on AITA on Reddit, people would absolutely berate them."

Recently, I asked the BuzzFeed Community which popular and widely loved TV characters they actually find annoying.

Here are 19 of their top respones:

    1. "Eddie Munson from Stranger Things. I found his character very obnoxious, and he was, in my opinion, the worst character in the show."

Joseph Quinn sticks out his tongue and holds up devil horns with his hands, wearing a Hellfire Club t-shirt and a denim jacket in a scene from Stranger Things

    2. "Phil Dunphy from Modern Family. He constantly makes comments about Clarie's appearance and makes inappropriate comments about Gloria in front of Claire."

Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen sitting on a couch, wearing casual attire, in a scene from Modern Family

    3. "It's really a mark of how wildly talented the rest of the cast is, 'cause I can't STAND Jess from New Girl. Everything about her annoys me, and she treats her friends like props she can manipulate around her to live out her 'quirky' fantasies."

Zooey Deschanel sits on a bed while making a quirky face

    4. "Daenarys in Game of Thrones. Talk about nepo babies — she didn't do anything to deserve being the 'mother of dragons' beyond being born into the right family. She was too short-sighted to realize they would hurt innocent people until it happened and too arrogant to keep them safe even while thinking of them as her children."

Emilia Clarke, as Daenerys Targaryen, sits in a room wearing a Grecian-style dress in a scene from the TV series "Game of Thrones."

    5. "That would be Gabrielle Solis from Desperate Housewives. Just watching the pilot and the final episode, she just gets worse! Selfish, arrogant, bad mother (she cares about her kid when it's about her)... She seemingly can't take a lesson from when she had money difficulties. The worst thing is that she always gets out of trouble by doing a silly thing, not resolving it."

    6. "Melissa from Abbott Elementary. She's such a stereotypical character, overexaggerated, and not funny."

    7. "Gonna get some flak for this, but...Michael Scott from The Office. Sure, they toned him down over the years, and he had his moments, but overall, I still find him largely unwatchable."

Steve Carell in a suit stands in an office

    8. "I did NOT like Jim Halpert from The Office. He was a jerk."

John Krasinski, wearing a shirt and tie, looks to the side with a contemplative expression

    9. "IMO, Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory is EXTREMELY annoying. I do appreciate that his character arc changed for the better as the show progressed, but I still found his selfish and condescending attitude to be a put-off."

Sheldon Cooper stands next to a whiteboard listing cosmology, dark matter, neutrinos, proton decay, and axions

    10. "Donna from That '70s Show. I don't get why everyone thought Eric was lucky to date her. She was annoying and kind of mean."

Laura Prepon poses for a headshot, wearing a dark top with a light collar and hoop earrings

    11. "Alex Karev from Grey's Anatomy. He didn't grow up nearly as much as people claim he did."

Justin Chambers portraying Dr. Alex Karev in a hospital setting, wearing a lab coat over medical scrubs, holding a pager and gesturing with his other hand

    12. "I make no secret about not liking Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. She insists upon herself."

Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw stands indoors wearing a large floral brooch and holding a fancy bag and light jacket

    13. "I absolutely could not stand Jane on Jane the Virgin. She was always yapping about how she's a writer and how she's not hotel staff but a writer... And then she 1) had pretty much zero original ideas once she finished her first book and 2) couldn't write anything even when ideas were not needed, i.e., when Petra asked her to ghostwrite for her."

Gina Rodriguez in a printed dress raises a wine glass with a smile while seated at a table with floral arrangements

    14. "Sookie from Gilmore Girls is just supremely irritating if you rewatch."

Sookiein a chef's kitchen posing with a smile. She is wearing a traditional double-breasted chef's coat and checked pants

    15. "Brooke Davies from One Tree Hill. She shouldn't have been added. There was a reason she wasn't in the pilot. She saw Peyton liked Lucas and vice versa, went after him anyway, and then made guilt-tripping Peyton her entire personality when two people who clearly had feelings for each other gave into those feelings."

Sophia Bush sits on a couch holding a stuffed monkey toy, looking pensive, in a scene from a TV show

    16. "Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother was selfish and immature, and he was constantly trying to push himself and his version of happiness on Robin."

Josh Radnor sits at a bar booth engaged in conversation, holding a beverage in a scene from "How I Met Your Mother."

    17. "LISA SIMPSON from The Simpsons! Everyone supposedly loves her, but I think she is really annoying and just ruins a lot of the show for me."

    18. "Spongebob. I can not stand that character. My daughter, of course, loved the show as a child. That's probably the only show I let her watch alone because I could not handle that thing."

SpongeBob SquarePants character pointing and smiling enthusiastically

    19. And finally: "Monic and Chandler from Friends. Chandler brings out the worst in Monica. As the series goes on, she becomes louder, more whiny, more conceited, and, therefore, more obnoxious. Monica matures Chandler, yes, but she lies to manipulate a woman into letting them adopt her baby...and Chandler goes along with it. If how they first met Erica was posted on AITA on Reddit, people would absolutely berate them."
